Dorothy R. Dougherty, 90, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, September 28 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. She was born on April 4, 1917 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Silas S. and Lorena L. Kirkpatrick Heston. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert E. Dougherty on October 3, 1937 in Keokuk, IA. He preceded her in death in 1996. Dorothy graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1934. She graduated from Southeastern Community College with the first practical nursing class. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, the Order of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine. Dorothy enjoyed knitting and reading. She loved the beauty of flowers, her favorite flower being the double delight rose. She was a loving mother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with her family. She is survived by one daughter Lisa K. Bode and her husband Darren of Keokuk, IA, four sons, Robert E. "Bob" Dougherty, II of Apache Junction, AZ, Michael L. Dougherty and his wife Harriet of Rochester Hills, MI, Roger A. Dougherty of Fredericksburg, VA and Douglas L. Dougherty and his wife Pamela of McGaheysville, VA, seventeen grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren, and one brother Loren Gene "Joe" Heston and his wife Ruth Elinor of Keokuk, IA. She was preceded in death by one son, David E. Dougherty in 2005, three brothers, Robert Heston, Eber Heston and Arthur Heston and one sister, Doris Heston. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Keokuk with Reverend Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Hamilton, IL. Memorials may be made to the family.
