Dorothy D. Alvis, 78, of Alexandria, MO died Saturday, July 17, 2010 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO. She was born on December 20, 1931 in Memphis, MO the daughter of Earl M. and Josephine Cline Russell. Dorothy first married Kenneth Edmondson in 1951. She later married Lloyd Alvis in 1960. She was employed at Swift and Co in Keokuk and Arkansas for several years and later worked at Shellor Globe in Keokuk, IA for 16 years before her retirement in 1993. Dorothy enjoyed visiting over a good cup of coffee, dancing, bowling and when she was younger she enjoyed fishing and hunting. She is survived by three sons, David Edmondson and his wife Karen of Wayland, MO, Lawrence Edmondson of Medill, MO, and Gary Alvis of Cassville, MO, one daughter, Pamela Turner and her husband Larry of Washington, IA, four brothers, Donald Russell of Ft. Madison, IA, Chadwick "June" Russell and his wife Mary Ellen of Ft. Madison IA, Henry "Doc" Rockhold and his wife Peggy of Lomax, IL, and Leonard "Jeff" Rockhold and his wife Karen of Ft. Madison, IA, two sisters, Mildred Schlicher and her husband Leland of Donnellson, IA and Wilma "Bessie" Davis of Ft. Madison, IA, nine grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bob Russell Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Sand Cemetery, St. Francisville, MO. Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross. The Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA is in charge of arrangements.
