Doris M. Porter, 88, of Keokuk, died Saturday, January 28, 2017 at River Hills Nursing Home in Keokuk.
She was born on June 4, 1928 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Ernest Harold and Ethel Mae Kerr Scott. On May 5, 1951, Doris was united in marriage to James R. Porter, Sr. in Keokuk. He survives.
She is also survived by two sons, Scott (Julie) Porter and James "Hubie" (Natalie) Porter, Jr. all of Keokuk, two daughters, Jean (Steve) Brown of Nauvoo, IL and Janet (Dee) Kinman of Springville, IN, eight grandchildren, Sally (Brian) Carter, Amy (T.J.) Newberry, Timothy (Robin) Porter, Nolan Porter, Annie Thornton (Tim Holmes), Kevin Crabtree (Amy Courtney) Jessica Kinman and Cal Kinman, eleven great-grandchildren, Andrew, Katie and Maddy Carter, Cole and Emma Newberry, Bo Balentine, Emily Newberry, Kais Porter, Evin, Elayna and Eathan Crabtree, one great-great-grandchild, Makayla Newberry, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Harold and Robert Scott, two sisters, Marg Patterson and her twin, Lois Jackson.
Doris graduated from Keokuk Senior High School.
She was a member of New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk and a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary of Keokuk.
She had been employed at Tipenbud's in Keokuk in for thirty years, where she was a "chicken fryer", frying up many servings of Tippenbud's famous fried chicken. She then worked as a greeter at Walmart in Keokuk for ten years.
Doris was a Chicago Cub fan.
A Memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Tuesday January 31, 2017 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to HCI Hospice of Mt. Pleasant, IA.
