Obituary

Doris Rose Nye, 83 of Platte City, MO formerly of Keokuk, IA died Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at her home in Platte City, MO. She was born January 6, 1926 in Memphis, MO the daughter of Ray and Tressie Ann Stephens Monroe. On August 9, 1947 Doris was united in marriage to Oliver Kenneth Nye he preceded her in death on January 17, 1991. Doris worked as a clerk for the Platte County Circuit Clerk's Office and retired from the Platte County Juvenile Office. She also served as a past City Judge of Dearborn, MO. Doris had previously worked for the TWA Dining Unit of Kansas City and the Ben Ferrell Museum of Platte City. Doris was a member of the Eastern Star, Daisy Chapter #86 of Platte City and served as Worthy Matron three times and District Deputy in 1971. She also was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary of Platte City. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed quilting and spending time with her family. Doris is survived by two sons, David K. Nye of Platte City, MO and Michael K. Nye and his wife Dana of Villa Ridge, MO, one sister, Madelyn Courtney of Memphis, MO, six grandchildren, Daniel, Nathan, Nicki, Jennifer, Neeley, and Tressie, three great-grandchildren, Austin, Wyatt, and Maxwell. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one son, Darrell R. Nye, and two sisters, Elise North and Maxine Maddox. Graveside services were held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 31, 2009 at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Dr. Emmanuel Dass officiating. Memorials may be made to the Eastern Star Daisy Chapter #86 of Platte City, MO or the Salvation Army.
