Doris E. Hawkins, 86, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Keokuk, IA died Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Park Place in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She was born October 18, 1924 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Macie P. and Mildred Petty Hagmeier. On January 24, 1942 she was united in marriage to R. Jerry Hawkins in Palmyra, MO. He preceded her in death on January 8, 2005. Doris worked at K-Mart in Keokuk as a sale associate and department head and retired in 1986. She had also been a district manager for Sarah Coventry. She was a member of the Belmont Cosmopolitan Club. Doris enjoyed sewing and crocheting 5 inch doll clothes. She also liked to read and make ceramics. She enjoyed the outdoors and liked to go camping, trout fishing and attend rodeos. She is survived by one son, Kenny Hawkins and his wife Kathy of Salem, IA one daughter, Bonita Green of Olds, IA, four grandsons, Robert Canby and his wife Barb of Gold Canyon, AZ, Jeffrey Hawkins of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Richard Canby and his wife Jenn of Cedar Rapids, IA and Clint Hawkins and his wife Laurie of Keokuk, IA, two granddaughters, Rochelle Fulcher and her husband Mark of Prairie du Chein, WI and Angela Gibson and her husband Dan of Keokuk, IA, sixteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Virgil Hagmeier and Jesse Hagmeier, one sister, Florence Calhoun and two son-in-laws, Roger Canby and Bill Green. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Bryan Katchay officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky, IA. Memorials may be made to the Henry County Dialysis in Mt. Pleasant, IA.
