Doris E. Hawes, 91, of Keokuk, Iowa died Sunday, July 09, 2006 at the Lexington Square in Keokuk, IA. She was born July 11, 1914 in Hamilton, IL the daughter of Lewis and Lillie Sayller Elwell. On June 21, 1953 she was united in marriage to Gaylord Hawes in Keokuk, Iowa. He preceded her in death on June 2, 1986. Doris and Gaylord moved from Argyle to California in 1955 and later returned to Keokuk in 1980. While in California she was employed by the Gillette Papermate Division in Santa Monica, CA. for 21 years as an inspector before she retired in 1979. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA and taught Sunday School for 20 years. She loved to collect doll and other various items. She is survived by nieces and nephews. Doris was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 12 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Rev. William Mitchell officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery, Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the the First Christian Church in Keokuk, IA.
