Obituary

Donna Rae Smith, 65, of Burlington, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at the Great River Hospice House in Burlington, IA. She was born on May 16, 1943 in Keokuk, IA, the daughter of Warren Ray and Maxine Peake Hanson. On July 5, 1963, Donna was united in marriage to Danny L. Smith. He survives. Other survivors include one son, Danny Ryan Smith of Burlington, IA, three daughters, Gayle Richardson and her husband Mike of Marion, IA, Jodi Rader and her husband Mark of Cedar Rapids, IA and Holly Rader and her husband Matt of Burlington, IA, eight grandchildren, her mother, Maxine Hanson of Hamilton, IL, two brothers, Dan Hanson and his wife Gwen of Hamilton, IL, and Mark Hanson and his wife Carolyn of Hamilton, IL, and eighteen nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and her grandparents. Donna graduated from Hamilton High School with the Class of 1961. Over the years she had been employed at Dubuque Savings and Loan in Dubuque, IA, the Parkview Homeowners Association in Parkview, IA, and Porter Insurance Office in Eldridge. Her most recent employment was with Auctions by Smith in Burlington, IA. She was a member of the Golden Point Christian Church in rural Hamilton, IL. Donna enjoyed needlepoint, reading, flower gardening and collecting Hen on the Nests and Roseville pottery. When traveling, she loved to stop at every Cracker Barrel she could locate. Donna was the family organizer and event planner and made every family gathering special. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Brother Chuck Gorsch officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky, IA. A Celebration of Life was held on Friday evening at 8 p.m. at the West Burlington Christian Church in West Burlington, IA. Memorials may be made to the Great River Hospice in Burlington, IA.
