Donald Paul Smith, 58 of Montrose, IA died Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital.
He was born June 5, 1957 in Ottumwa, IA the son of Thomas B. and Louise E. Ollendick Smith.
Donald graduated from Ottumwa High School in Ottumwa, IA and later attended Indian Hills College in Ottumwa.
He had been employed by Huffman Welding for twenty five years as a mechanical engineer.
Donald loved spending time outdoors and enjoyed fishing. He liked to go dancing and play pool. Donald adored his children and grandchildren and cherished the time he spent with them.
Donald is survived by his loving companion Therese Egley, one son, Kristopher Smith (Stephanie) of Montrose, IA, three daughters, Mary Beth Caboth of Montrose, Erin Taft (Jerry) of Donnellson, IA and Claire Smith of Montrose, and Theresa's children, Nikki Cale, Deacon Egley, Dominic Egley, Breanna Egley, Brittani Egley, Brigido Keegan Egley, and Christa Egley, numerous grandchildren, three brothers, Steve Smith (Kathy) of Cedar Rapids, IA, David Smith (Judy) and Mike Smith (Lori) all of Ottumwa, IA two sisters, Mary Barker (John) of Ottumwa, IA and Ginger Smith of Rochester, MN, one sister-in-law, Patti Smith of Paris, TN, many aunts, uncles, nieces and cousins and his faithful companion dachshunds dogs, Peanut and Tinkerbell.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dennis Smith.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday at the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m., Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with family meeting with friends at that time.
Memorials may be made to Claire's education fund.
