Donald R. Carlson, 83, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on May 22, 1929 in Keokuk the son of Albert and Louise Johnson Carlson. On October 17, 1948 Donald was united in marriage to Lucille Carlton in Ft. Madison, IA. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Wanda Carlson of Keokuk, Susan Schmid and her husband Dave of Keokuk and D'Ete Wilson and her husband Terry of Donnellson, IA, three grandchildren, Craig Winn, Dawn Lyons and her husband Tim and Danielle York and her husband Paul, one sister, Helen Turtle and her husband Harold of Keokuk, four sisters-in-law, Mary Carlson and Doris Carlson both of Keokuk, Mildred Carlson of Mt. Pleasant, IA and Marge Carlson of Quincy, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers, Harold, Verl, Chester, Ralph, Jim and Vernon Carlson. Don had been employed at Hubinger's in Keokuk for forty years, retiring on June 1, 1991. He was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Keokuk, IA. Don enjoyed traveling and was an avid NASCAR fan. He was a talented woodworker and crafted beautiful quilt racks, tables, shelves and outdoor lawn ornaments. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, January 14, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to the Keokuk Area Hospital Serenity Room or the First Christian Church of Keokuk.
