Donald Rex Boley, 83, of Keokuk, IA, weighed anchor for his eternal voyage February 6, 2011. Don began his earthly tenure January 14, 1928 in Iowa City, Iowa the son of John Edward and Grace Elizabeth Thompson Boley. He attended school in Franklin, Iowa and joined the Navy in 1945. During service to his country, Don participated in "Operation Crossroads," the testing of atomic weapons on the Bikini Atoll in the Pacific. In his later years, Don would tell a story or two about his naval service. He was especially proud when his granddaughter, Jennifer Boley decided to serve her country in the Navy. Don married his sweetheart Charlotte Leffler December 2, 1946 in Keokuk, IA. She preceded him in death on February 16, 1995. He is survived by three daughters; Dona Francis and her husband Oscar of Keokuk, IA, Terry Levarn and her husband Dana of Fort Walton Beach, FL and Sandy Sanderson and her husband Dave of Mt. Pleasant, IA, three sons; Ronnie "Rowdy" Boley and his wife Penny of Hamilton, IL, Lonnie "Dee" Boley and his wife Tina of Hamilton, IL and Donald Boley II and his wife Kendra of Hamilton, IL. Don is also survived by his brother, Robert Boley of Keokuk, IA, three sisters, Grace Bohanan of Texas, Betty Boley of Arizona and Judy Rogers of Texas, 14 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren with three more great grandchildren due later this year. And lastly, a very special friend, Delores Mortimer of Keokuk, IA. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Boley Pults and 5 siblings, John, Larry, Carl, MaryAnn and Rogena. Don resided in Warsaw, IL for over fifty years and retired from Steel Castings in 1989 after 26 years. After retirement he enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, fishing, working on projects in his garage and spending time with his family. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Warsaw, IL, Eagles Club, VFW, Southside Boat Club, and Lakeview Campground. Don, we wish you fair seas and following winds as you commence your eternal journey. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 10th, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Keela Newmann officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Oakland Cemetery, Warsaw, IL. Memorials may be made to the Warsaw Ambulance Service.
