Don Wright

View Video Tribute Don R. Wright, 81, of Keokuk, IA, died Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his daughter's home in Cantril, IA. He was born on April 7, 1930 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the son of Charles D. and Grace M. Jointer Wright. On July 16, 1980, Don was united in marriage to Karen M. Thompson Skinner in St. Francisville, MO. She survives. He is also survived by five daughters, Grace I. Drummond and her husband Dennis of Cantril, IA, Tracy L. Wright of Keokuk, IA, Verna L. Nelson and her husband Rod of Donnellson, IA, Lisa A. Givan ofCoal Valley, ILand Tammy K. Wright and her husband Adam of Keokuk, IA two sons, Don G. Wright and his wife Nola of Cedarvale, KS and Rex A. Wright and his wife Donna of Argyle, IA, one step-daughter, Elizabeth Cass of Keokuk, IA, one step-son, Jack Skinner of Keokuk, IA, twenty-one grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, two brothers, Ben Wright and his wife Joan of Swisher, IA and Bruce Wright and his wife Norma of Portage, IN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, seven brothers, six sisters, and two daughters, Kimberly D. Cecil and Lorraine Sue Pattison, one son-in-law, Mike Pattison, two granddaughters, Annabelle Land and LaRanda Skinner and one great-granddaughter, Philamena Krogmeier. Don was a veteran of the United States Army. He had been employed at Seigmund Brothers Tent and Awning in Keokuk until 1967 when he retired due to his first battle with cancer. He loved horses and horseback riding. He had raised and trained many horses throughout his life and was very proud of his past horses that he owned. Don collected firearms and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed target practicing with handguns and rifles. He also enjoyed restoring antique cars with the help of his wife who did the interior upholstery work. He was very interested in politics and loved to get into political conversations with friends and family. Don was a wonderful, devoted husband, dad and grandpa who leaves his family a lifetime of wonderful memories. Funeral serviceswere held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 31at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Burialwas in the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the family.
