Dolores Doad Rein Wharton, 91, of Keokuk, died Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Montrose Health Center, Montrose, IA.
She was born on August 31, 1922 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Harry and Florence Ward Rein. She was married to Francis W. Wharton for 32 years, they later divorced.
Doad was a graduate of the St. Peters High School, Keokuk, IA with the Class of 1940.
She served as Justice of the Peace in Keokuk in the late 1960s. She was employed by the T.P. W and Santa Fe Railroads for 13 years before her retirement in 1984.
Doad loved flowers and was a long-time member of the Keokuk Garden Club and a master gardener. She was a donor and volunteer for the Keokuk Bloodmobile. She was active in the Democratic Party. Doad was a lifelong reader of classical literature, history and politics.
She is survived by six children, Gregory D. Wharton of Keokuk, Deborah J. Wharton of Keokuk, IA, Stephen F. Wharton of Largo, FL, Jeffrey Wharton of Kansas, Benjamin Wharton of IA and Ann Wharton of IA, three sisters, Florence Boyle of Bellingham, WA, Emily Rose of Warsaw, IL and Carole Rossilli of Lakewood, CA, two brothers, Dr. H. Ward Rein of Encino, CA, and Jim Rein of Geneseo, IL, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Doad was preceded in death by one son Frederic Marc Wharton, two grandsons, Benjamin and Stephen Wharton, three sisters, Mary Jane McCann, Betty McCready and Harriette Koeber.
According to her wishes there will be no services or visitation.
