Dixie Fleming Atterberg Eck, 82, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, August 17, 2008 at Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA after a long illness. She was born on July 1, 1926 in Cedar Rapids, IA, the daughter of Merle and Florence Klingel Fleming. She married Harold Atterberg on August 11, 1945. She later married John Eck on December 24, 1971. He preceded her in death on March 14, 1997. She was the owner and operator of Sugar Creek Kennel in Keokuk for 30 years, retiring in 1999. She loved her dogs and enjoyed photography, music and doing craft projects. She is survived by three daughters, Teena Caldwell of Farmington, MO, Tonya Ferguson and her husband Hugh of Warsaw, IL and Tamara Christensen and her husband Tim of Camano Island, WA, one son, Roger Atterberg of Keokuk, IA, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-four great-grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, her grandparents who raised her in Warsaw, IL, Henry and Bertha Klingel, two sons-in-law, Gary Young and Raymond Caldwell, a daughter-in-law, Rebecca Ann (Kelly) Atterberg, an uncle and aunt, Ray and Beatrice Browne. A private memorial service will be held at her farm on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m. There will be no visitation. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Children's Hospital.
