Obituary

Delmar Glenn Nye, 81, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, January 24, 2005 at his home. He was born on January 21, 1924 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Oliver H. and Blanche Horn Nye. Delmar was united in marriage to Leta Madge Biddenstadt on August 18, 1946 at the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Craig Nye and his wife Monica of Ft. Madison, IA, Chad Nye and his wife Gina and Jay Nye and his wife Tracie, all of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Nancy Nye and her partner Brad Hunter of Hamilton, IL, two sisters-in-law, Doris Nye of Platt City, MO, and Joann Othmer and her husband Richard of Ft. Pierce, FL, seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth Nye and one sister, Esther Varner. Delmar was a veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1943 – 1946 and the United States Army, serving from 1950 – 1951. He proudly served his country during WW II and the Korean Conflict and was Honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk, IA. From 1959 – 1967, Delmar was the owner/operator of Nye's Auto Salvage in Keokuk. He also was employed as a lineman at Union Electric for twenty-three years. He was a member of the St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk and the American Legion Post #41. He was a former member and past Master of the Mason Lodge Hardin #29 and a past Patron of the Eastern Star. He enjoyed woodworking and going to yard sales. Delmar was always ready to help out neighbors and friends. He never knew a stranger and was a friend to all. His family was very important to him. He was a good husband and a loving father and provided his family with a wonderful example of how to live life. Graveside services with military rites were held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 28 at the Keokuk National Cemetery with Pastor Jack Spratt officiating. Memorials were established for the American Cancer Society and the St. Paul United Church of Christ.
