Obituary

Deborah Marie Lang, 68, of Montrose, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

A memorial service was held on October 11, 2025, at 10:00 am at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Pastor Ed Hudelson will officiate.

Debbie was born on September 28, 1956, at Camp Zama, Sagamihara, Japan to Capt. Robert C. Frase and Pearl G. Frase, joining her three brothers Buddy, Bobby and John.

Debbie grew up traversing the globe with her family. After a 3 year stay in Japan, the family moved to Riverwoods, IL, where her parents began building a home on an acre purchased from her dad's parents. But, like clockwork, after another three years, the Army relocated the family to Stuttgart, Germany and this time they were joined by their new baby sister Lori.

During their time in Germany, the family spent summers camping and traveling all over Europe, including Denmark, Belgum, Holland, Germany, Austria, Italy and many other places during their 3-year stay, even making a visit to her mom's ancestral home in Alesund, Norway. In 1965 her dad received orders to report to Ft Sheridan, Illinois and the family returned to their unfinished home in Riverwoods, IL where Debbie entered 4th grade and later graduated from Deerfield High School in 1974.

After high school, Debbie graduated from Robert Morris secretarial school and later the school of Cosmetology in Carthage, IL. She planted roots in the Hamilton, IL and Keokuk, IA areas. Debbie married Don Nagel, and together they welcomed a daughter, Nichole Lynn into the world. She later married Darwin E. Lang in Keokuk, IA on August 15, 2001. Darwin preceded her in death on May 7, 2021.

Debbie had a deep love for gardening, especially growing large pumpkins, and was rarely seen without her beloved dog, Chip. She and Darwin shared a passion for live blues music festivals. She was also a talented and gifted artist, leaving behind many beautiful and memorable paintings. But more than anything, she loved spending time with her two granddaughters.

Debbie is survived by her daughter, Nichole Nagel of Keokuk; two granddaughters, Kearra Scott and Aubree Dade; one sister, Ruth Frase of Davenport, CA; and three brothers, Lewis (Bud) Frase (Kathy) of Hernando Beach FL; Robert Frase (Jill) of Fairbury, IL; and John Frase (Dawn) of Lake Zurich, IL. She also leaves behind 8 nieces.

In addition to her husband Darwin, she was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Lori Segin and nephews Matthew Frase and George Clark.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family wishes that donations be made to Meals On Wheels in Keokuk, IA.
