David Tweedy, 86 of Montrose, IA died, Friday, May 09, 2014 at the Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA. He was born September 2, 1927 in Keokuk the youngest son of Hugh Earl and Ve Starr Tweedy. He was united in marriage to Elsie Senf on August 7, 1948 in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include four sons, Rodney Tweedy and his wife Jennie of Montrose, Steve Tweedy and his wife Kathy of Revere, MO, Dan Tweedy and his wife Vicki of Montrose, and Walter Tweedy and his wife Peggy of Montose, two daughters, Mary Bell and her husband Gene of Laclede, ID and Sherry Wells and her husband Dave of Lathrope, MO, seventeen grandchildren, fourty-five great grandchildren, his sister, Elizabeth Dresser of Montrose, three sisters in law, Edith Tweedy of Montrose, Joyce Weirather and her husband Jerry of Keokuk, and Linda Senf of Montrose, two brothers in law, Rick Senf of Montrose, and Ron Senf of Yuma AZ, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, James, Kenneth, Hugh and Jay and six sisters, Mildred, Katheryn, Ve, Florence, Virginia and Marjorie. David graduated from the Montrose High School with the Class of 1945. He was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard. He served as a merchant Marine in the US Maritime Service. A farmer for his entire lifetime David needed nothing more to make life worthwhile than to farm his fields and love his family. He enjoyed tinkering with things to figure out how they worked. Most of all he was a wonderful devoted husband, dad and grandpa who leaves his family a lifetime of wonderful memories. According to his wishes his body was donated to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for medical research. There will be no visitation or services. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
