David Lynn Redding, 78, of Kahoka, passed away Monday, April 13, 2026, at Lincoln Village Healthcare Center in Lincoln, Illinois.

He was born September 6, 1947, in Kirksville, Missouri, the son of Robert Otis and Leola Maxine (Pruett) Redding. In his younger years, David worked alongside his family in logging.

On April 11, 1965, he was united in marriage to Sandra (Byrn) Redding. Together they shared fifty-five years of marriage until her passing in 2020.

David moved to the Quad Cities area, where he was employed at Alcoa in Bettendorf, Iowa, retiring after many years. In addition to his work there, he and his family owned and operated Redding and Sons in Viola, Illinois, a small engine repair, hardware, feed, and gun shop.

David had a deep passion for the outdoors and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a licensed pilot and found great joy in flying small airplanes. A man of many interests, he spent time learning to play several musical instruments and enjoyed relaxing with Western movies, especially Gunsmoke.

Following his retirement, David and Sandra moved to the countryside near Williamstown, Missouri, where he cherished being surrounded by nature and wildlife. Later, they made their home in Kahoka.

He is survived by his two sons, David Redding of Kahoka and Marty (Melissa) Redding of New Windsor, Illinois; his daughter, Pamela Redding Miller (Tim) of Buffalo, Missouri; two grandsons, Adam Redding and Bradly Miller; and two step-grandchildren, Jacqueline Bruning and Will Bruning. He is also survived by his brothers, Jerry (Julia) Redding, Sam (Teri) Redding, and Tim (Kay) Redding; his sisters, Kay Redding, Debbie (Pat) Malone, Becky (Harold) Moore, Elizabeth Redding, and Martha (Randy) Ellefritz; his sisters-in-law, Linda Redding, Sue Spory Houston and Helen Byrn; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra; his father- and mother-in-law, Monroe and Alice Irene Winn Byrn; his brothers, Keith, Bill, and John Redding; his sisters-in-law, Susan Redding, Rae Redding, Judy Smith, Jean Mathena, and Zola Byrn; and his brothers-in-law, Leonard Byrn, Vernie Byrn, Tom Byrn, Robert Smith, Vernon Mathena, Bill Spory, and Jim Huston, as well as several nieces and nephews.
