David J. Brown, 74, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Lexington Square in Keokuk. He was born on April 8, 1939 in Ft. Madison, IA, the son of Leonard and Leah Lamb Brown. On November 19, 1958, David was united in marriage to Lorena Hutson at her home in Keokuk, IA. She survives. Other survivors include one son, Michael W. Brown and his wife Vicki of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, four grandchildren, Ashley M. Brown, CJ Michael Brown and fiancé Kelli Pahl, Jared W. Brown and Michael J. Brown, one great-granddaughter, Gracie M. Clark, five sisters, Patricia Smutzer and husband Jack, Naomi Rube, Jeannette Bolanos and Julie Hemmie and her husband Larry all of Ft. Madison, IA, and Marie Evans and husband Grady of Worthington, OH and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Cecil in infancy, Edward, Dennis and Delmar, and one sister in infancy, Judith. David was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country from 1958 – 1962. He had been employed at ADM in Keokuk for over thirty years, retiring in 2000. He was a member of the Grain Millers Union. David was a faithful member of the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk where he served as a Deacon and later an Elder. He also was a Sunday School teacher, drove the church bus, served communion to shut-ins and helped at the local church camp. David truly had a servant's heart and was always ready to help anyone in need. David loved to fish and he and his fishing buddy, Roy Nash, would travel miles to find the best fishing spots in Iowa, Missouri and Illinois. He enjoyed playing cards with his son and grandchildren and was always ready for a good game of Eucher at family get-togethers. He was an avid fan of the Los Angeles Dodgers, Green Bay Packers and Iowa Hawkeyes. David enjoyed visiting with friends and often joined the coffee crowd at McDonalds. David always had a joke to tell and brightened everyone's day with his kindness and sense of humor. David was a man of integrity, hardworking and dedicated to his family. He loved his family deeply and always made them a priority in his life. David's faith in Christ was a vital part of his life. His daily prayer life and Bible reading gave him much strength and encouragement . Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 29th, 2013 at the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial with Military Rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Testament Christian Church in Keokuk.
