Obituary

View Video Tribute Dale Newberry, 84 of Argyle, IA died Monday, April 18, 2011 at the Ft. Madison Community Hospital in Ft. Madison, IA. He was born on the family farm in Argyle, IA on May 16, 1926, the son of Charles and Esther Peterson Newberry. On October 17, 1945 Dale was united in marriage to Betty J. Schoene at the First Methodist Church in Ft. Madison, IA. She survives. Other survivors include two daughters, SueAnn Peterson and her husband Larry of Montrose, IA and Jane Phillips and her husband Mike of Grandview, MO, one son, Steven Newberry and his wife Linda of Argyle, IA, six grandsons, thirteen great-grandchildren and six step- great-grandchildren. Dale was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Florence Waldren and Garnet Bergthold. Dale attended the Argyle School and graduated with the class of 1943. Dale was honored to work on his family farm which was started by his grandfather, J.W. Newberry in 1838. He also worked as a sales person for Pioneer Seed. Dale was a member of the Argyle Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder and Trustee. He also served on the Argyle School Board, Argyle Cemetery Board, Lee County Extension Council and Lee County Fair Board. Dale had also served as a 4-H leader of the Handy Helpers 4-H club. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, April 21, 2011at the Argyle Presbyterian Church in Argyle, IA with Pastor Bill Willis and Pastor Alice Hawes officiating. Burial was in the Argyle Memorial Garden in Argyle, IA. Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics, REM 8th Street in Marion, IA or Argyle Memorial Garden.
