Obituary

Curtis W. "Bud" Parkin, 81, of Seymour, IA, formerly of Hamilton, IL, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at the Mercy Medical Center in Centerville, IA. He was born on July 16, 1926 in Tazwell County, IL, the son of William N. and Clara E. Stevens Parkin. On February 14, 1950, Curtis was united in marriage to Kathleen Shoemaker in Warsaw, IL. She survives. Other survivors include two sons, Ora Parkin and his wife Lena of Pittsburg, IL, and Karl Parkin of Mt. Pleasant, IA, four grandchildren, Jared Parkin and his friend Becca of Memphis, MO, Tina York and her husband Gabriel of Fremont, CA, Jesse Parkin & his friend Casey of Keokuk, IA, Dustin Parkin and his friend Melissa of Keokuk, IA, one great-granddaughter, Serenity Parkin of Keokuk, IA, and one sister, Phyllis Kill and her husband Jerry of California. He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-father, Wiley Morris, one sister, Loretta Sowers and one brother Lloyd Parkin. As a heavy equipment owner/operator, Curtis had worked for Sammons Construction and McDowells, both in Keokuk. He also did conservation work including terracing for farmers. He was a member of Orleans Church of Christ in Moulton, IA. Curtis enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved his dog, Sadie, who was his constant companion. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Jerry Weller officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the Orleans Church of Christ in Moulton, IA.
