Clovere Elna Stein, 91, of Montrose, Iowa died Monday, April 23, 2007 at 1:55 a.m. at the Ft. Madison Health Center in Ft. Madison, IA. She was born on July 27, 1915 in Lewistown, MO, the daughter of George and Della Mae Cooper Brumbaugh. On July 28, 1940, Clovere was united in marriage to Harold J. Stein in Canton, MO. He survives. Other survivors include one daughter, Patty Wellborn of Montrose, IA, two sons, Dr. Ronald K. Stein and his wife Susan of Donnellson, IA and Richard Stein of Montrose, IA, five grandchildren, Vern K. Stein and his wife Lynette of Ft. Madison, IA, Susie (Stein) Gorrell and her husband Kenny of Donnellson, IA, Phillip Stein and his wife, Richelle, of Donnellson, IA, Amanda (Wellborn) Brown and her husband John of Vienna, Austria and Lee Wellborn and his wife, Katie of Midland, TX. She is also survived by one sister, Willa Vogelaar of Ottumwa, IA, nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Vernie Ralph Stein, eight brothers and seven sisters. She was a life-long resident of rural Montrose, IA. She loved spending time in her home with her family, preparing meals for them and baking wonderful pies. As a devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, canning, sewing and making beautiful hand-pieced quilts for family members. Her love of animals and nature was evident by her kind and caring personality. She was a gifted writer and artist and her favorite past-time was reading the Bible. She was a member of the Montrose Methodist Church for many years and the Martha Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star of Montrose, IA. She was employed at Drydens/Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA for nine years from 1956 – 1965. For many years she had served as a volunteer at the Keokuk Convalescent Center, now known as Lexington Square. Always putting the needs of others before her own, she was a compassionate and loyal caregiver to many people and family members throughout her life. A graveside service was held at 10:30 a.m., Friday at the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA with Reverend Goldie Laymon officiating. Memorials may be made to the family and mailed to the Vigen Memorial Home, 1328 Concert St., Keokuk, IA.
