Clifford William McKee, 87, of Keokuk, Iowa died Wednesday, October, 1, 2008 at Lexington Square in Keokuk. He was born January 23, 1921 in Birmingham, Iowa, the son of Grant and Lillie Greenfield McKee. On February 15, 1943 he married Lelah Hining in Amarillo, Texas. She preceded him in death on September 19, 1991. In 1992 he was married to Lois Hagans Peevler of Keokuk. She preceded him in death on July 24, 1998. Clifford graduated from Birmingham High School, Parsons College and Drake University. During WWII he proudly served his country as 1st Lieutenant in the US Army and was stationed as a medic in Europe. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service. After returning from the war, he was high school principal at Keosauqua and Leon Schools. He then became superintendent of schools at Hornick, Gladbrook, New London and finally 21 years in Aplington where he retired in 1983. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Keokuk, and a former member of the First Presbyterian Church of Aplington. He was a member of the Lions Club, a life member of the NEA, and a life member of the Iowa Association of School Administrators. He was also a member of the Amvets, American Legion and VFW. Clifford was raised in a musical family and he shared his beautiful tenor voice in church choirs, barber shop quartets, duets and solos. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Lester and Arthur; a sister, Ruth Canady, and step-son, William Peevler. He is survived by son, Doug of Des Moines; daughter, Carolyn Fox and her husband Bob of Cedar Rapids; daughter Cindy Brady and her husband Vince of Oklahoma City; step daughter, Shirlee Laubersheimer of Keokuk, who was like a daughter to him. Also surviving him are step children Patty Peevler, Gary Peevler and his wife Donna, Ed Peevler and his wife Annette, and Jeff Peevler. Clifford is also survived by five grandchildren: Shawn and Tammy Fox (Minneapolis), Troy Fox (Cedar Rapids), Mara and Gabe Braselton (Kansas City), Arianne and Jordan Brady (Oklahoma City); and three great grandchildren, Ashlyn, Kaden, and Ella Fox; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his step-grandchildren: Shellee and Brent Laubersheimer, Justin, Haylee, Cole, Lauren, and Travis Peevler. Graveside services were held at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 4 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Aplington, Iowa. A Memorial was established for the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, Iowa.
