Claude "Tom" Nixon, 88, of Keokuk died Saturday, October 22, 2016 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk.
Tom was born on May 30, 1928 in Keokuk, IA the son of Claude N. and Georgia F. VanHesley. On December 24 1950 he was united in marriage to Leona M. Abrahams at the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on September 28, 2001.
Tom was a graduate of the Keokuk High School with the Class of 1948.
He was employed at Hubingers in Keokuk for 30 years before retiring as mail room supervisor in 1985.
Tom was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk.
He loved to golf, go fishing and taking fishing trips to Canada with his longtime friends. Tom was an avid reader, loved to read anything he could get his hands on. He really enjoyed traveling and taking vacations with his daughters. He was also an avid Hawkeye fan.
Tom also ran the scoreboard for the Keokuk High School basketball games.
Tom is survived by six daughters, Nancy A. Nixon, Janice A Nixon, Becky J. Worster and her husband George, Libby J. Wigginton and her husband James and Kim G. Hardy and her husband Tim all of Keokuk and Susan K. Stambach and her husband Stan of Nauvoo, IL, six grandchildren, Jackie Allen, David Allen and his wife Mandee, Jennifer Bourgeois and her husband Ryan and Ashley Manning and her husband Shad, Shannon Stambach and Samantha Rose and her husband Alan Jr., two great grandsons, Darren Blickhan and Mason Rose.
He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Sandra Rae Nixon.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Ocotboer 25, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home Keokuk, IA with Pastor Jeff Bixby officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk.
