Obituary

Claude A. Leggett, 79, of Kahoka, MO died Wednesday, December 5, 2007 at the St. Lukes Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He was born on October 28, 1928 in Donnellson, IA, the son of Earl and Ethel Koeber Leggett. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict. Over the years he had been self-employed as a contractor, painter and truck driver. He had been a driver for Prestige, Inc. of Neodeshay, KS for over twenty years until he retired in 2006 due to illness. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Keokuk, IA and a former member of the Jappa Masonic Lodge in Montrose, IA, and the Eastern Star Martha Chapter in Montrose, IA. In his spare time he enjoyed woodworking and hunting and collecting geodes. He is survived by his companion of thirty-four years, Esther Henchal of Kahoka, MO, two daughters, Linda M. Parrish of Iowa City, IA and Claudia J. Waun of Norton, OH, five sons, James A. Leggett of Wasilla, Alaska, Carl A. Leggett of Burlington, IA, James Behnke and his companion Linda Byrn and Jeff Behnke and his wife Dianne all of Kahoka, MO and Mike Behnke of Ft. Walton Beach FL one sister, Earlaine Hoover of Bettendorf, IA, one brother, Paul A. Leggett and his wife Faye of Applegate, MI, ,nineteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Marla M. Fields, one sister Darlene Gorham, two brothers, Wayne E. & Frederick E. Leggett and his parents. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Sunset Memorial Park, Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
