Clarence "Doc" E. Savage, 94, of Hamilton, IL, died Friday, January 20, 2012 at Lexington Square in Keokuk, IA.
He was born on February 18, 1917 in Hillsboro, IA the son of Charles and Libby Savage. On July 14, 1942, Clarence was united in marriage to Virginia McDorman in Kahoka, MO. She survives.
Other survivors include two sons, Clarence Savage, Jr. and his wife Sandra of Hamilton, IL, and Kirk Savage and his wife Mona of Keokuk, IA, one daughter, Shelia Savage of Keokuk, IA, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Doris Glines and Lois Newman and one brother, Bill Savage.
Clarence was a veteran of the United States Army and proudly served his country during WW II as a mechanic engineer.
He had been employed as manager at Sieg Company in Keokuk, IA for twenty seven years and at Newell Chevrolet in Carthage, IL for a few years. In 1975, he opened Savage Tackle Box in Hamilton, IL and worked there every day until he was 91 years old. During those 33 years Clarence made a lot of friends in the community and with people who came from all over to fish in the Mississippi.
Clarence was a talented artist and enjoyed drawing and painting pictures. He loved to fish and exchange fish stories with fellow fishermen. There was nothing Clarence liked better than an interesting conversation with his friends and all those that came into his tackle shop.
Funeral serviceswere held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, January 24at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Bob Wagner officiating. Burial with military riteswas in the Keokuk National Cemetery.
