Obituary

Clarence Eugene Poindexter, Sr., 80, of Kahoka, MO died Tuesday, March 29, 2005 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born August 1, 1924 in Fort Madison, IA, a son of Lewis Sproul and Alice Mae Downs Poindexter. He first married Velta Alberta Schultz. He later married Wilma Agnew. They were married for 28 years. He married Lucille Parrish Burr on January 11, 1985. She preceded him in death on November 13, 1998. Clarence moved to Kahoka in 1985. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years during WWII. Five years later he reenlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served for a total of 18 years. He retired from the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the American Legion #192, the VFW #4342, and the Fleet Reserve Association Iowa 216. Clarence liked to travel when he could. He enjoyed playing cards, watching stock car races, national geographic, and anything with wildlife. He is survived by his fiancée LaNeta Bernhardt of Fort Madison, IA, two sons, Randall Lewis Poindexter and his wife Paula of Roosevelt, OK and Clarence Eugene Poindexter, Jr. and his wife Linda of Ferris, TX, step-daughter, Kay Glasgow and her husband Don, of Fort Madison, IA, step-son, Aaron Burr and his wife Pat of Wyaconda, MO, one sister, Dora Jean Brown, and her husband Lee of Lancaster, MO, and five grandchildren, Mike and his wife Sharon, Clarence Eugene, III, Jason and his wife Keidonya, Suzi, and Shannon and seven great grandchildren, Lisa, Clarence Eugene IV, Lucas, Alice, Jasie, Kinkaid, and Presley Poindexter. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Helen Marie Burns. Funeral services were held at 11:00 A. M. Saturday, April 2, 2005 at Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Reverend Dick Clifford officiating. Burial was in the Myers Cemetery in rural Pontoosuc, IL, with military rites by the American Legion Post #192 and the VFW Post #4342. Visitation was held after 1:00 P.M., Friday with the family meeting with friends from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Pallbearers were Jason Poindexter, Don Glasgow, Aaron Burr, Brian Burr, Toby Burr and Todd Loter. Memorials were made to the Salvation Army, the American Legion #192, or the VFW #4342.
