Clarence Junior "June" Coovert, 90, of Keokuk died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk. He was born April 1, 1924 in Keokuk the son of Virgil and Vada Kemper Coovert. On May 15, 1948 he was united in marriage to Barbara Gilpin in Keokuk. She survives. Other survivors include, two sons, David Coovert and his wife Kathy of Keokuk and Daniel Coovert and his wife Joan of Manhattan, KS, five grandchildren, Eric Coovert, Megan Hogan, Steffanie Coovert, Aaron Coovert and Alex Coovert, five great-grandchildren, Hannah, Luke, Owen and Kylie Coovert and Zayleigh Hogan and one brother, Robert Coovert and his wife Velda of Keokuk. He was preceded in death by one brother, Howard Coovert and one sister, Francis Kimmick. June graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1942. He was a veteran of the United States Navy and proudly served his country during World War II. June had been employed at Hubinger's in Keokuk as a brick layer from 1957 until his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the Living Waters Assembly of God Church in Keokuk and the Grain Millers Union. June loved spending time outdoors golfing, fishing hunting and landscaping. He also enjoyed oil painting. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 1, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Reverend Larry Wallingford officiating. Burial with military rites was in the Keokuk National Cemetery in Keokuk. Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice or Living Waters Assembly of God Church.
