Clarence Leroy Johnson, 82, of Montrose, IA died Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at his home. He was born on January 23, 1926 in Lee County, Iowa the son of Oscar and Cecilia Beckett Johnson. On May 18, 1945 Clarence was united in marriage to Dolores Phillips in Ft. Madison, IA. She survives. Other survivors include three sons, Jim Johnson and his wife Diane of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Mike Johnson and his wife Joyce of Montrose, IA, and Paul Johnson and his wife Candy of Keokuk, IA, three daughters, Dorothy Kensett of Ft. Madison, IA, Pam Muenchow and her husband Wayne of Austin, TX, and Teresea Goedicke and her husband Paul of Atlas, OK, 18 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, one sister, Reva Helmuth and her husband Dan of Iowa City, IA, one brother Glenn Johnson and his wife Marguerite of Donnellson, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents. Clarence graduated from Argyle High School in Argyle, IA with the Class of 1944. Clarence was employed at Electro Metals (Foote Mineral) for over 25 years then was employed at the Iowa State Penitentiary in Ft. Madison as Superintendent of the Power House until his retirement. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Keokuk and later the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ft. Madison, IA. Clarence had been active in both churches and had served on the board of both churches. He was involved in the Boy Scouts and had served as a Scout Master. Clarence enjoyed woodworking, cutting his own trees, drying the wood and making furniture. He also was an avid gardener. Clarence especially enjoyed the times when all of his family came home to be together. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Rev. Kimberly Riebe officiating. Burial was in the Sunset Memorial Park in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ft. Madison, IA.
