Christina "Chris"Jo Wright, 56 of Keokuk died Wednesday, February 13, 2013 at her home. She was born on December 17, 1956 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Robert and Marjorie Boley George. On January 27, 1980 Chris was united in marriage to Fred Wright in Keokuk. He survives. Other survivors include one son, Jacob Wright of Keokuk, one daughter, Sarah Wright of Ann Arbor, MI, her mother, Marjorie George of Keokuk, one brother, Les George of Keokuk, a sister-in-law, Sandra Wright Hansen of Keokuk and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father. Chris graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1975. She continued her schooling and graduated from Southeastern Community College in 1977 and the University of Iowa in December of 1979. She was a Dental Hygienist and had worked for Dr. Gerald Schleier of Keokuk for twenty-nine years. She also taught dental hygiene at Carl Sandburg College in Galesburg, IL for seven years. Chris had a strong faith that was an active and vital part of her life. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk where she had been a sponsor for six youth mission trips. Chris also served as a substitute organist at FCC and at several other local churches. Chris was very generous with her time and talents. She had served on the Keokuk Art Center Board, the Quincy Youth Chorus Board and had been a member of the Keokuk Music Boosters and served as past-treasurer. Chris was very active in Great River Players Community Theater as an actor, director and producer. She assisted with GRP's Summer Children's theatre program for several years. She served on the GRP Board of Directors for many years as a member, past-President and Treasurer. In 2002, Chris was the recipient of the Great River Player's Outstanding Service Award. She was also a member of the Daughter of the American Revolution. Chris was very pleased to be able to participate and finish in the 2006 Horner YMCA Triathalon. Chris was a loving wife and mother. Her life revolved around her family and wherever they were or whatever they were doing, she was always there supporting every endeavor. Chris was a good friend to many and she brightened their lives with her kindness and grace. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday at the First Christian Church of Keokuk, IA with Reverend David Turner officiating. Burial will be in the Charleston Cemetery. Visitation will be held after 2 p.m., Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with family meeting with friends from 4-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church or the Russell and Anne Guerdin American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Iowa City, IA.
