Charles Everett "Chuck" Webb, 89, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, August 26, 2016 at the River Hills Village in Keokuk.
He was born on May 30, 1927 in Prosperity, IL, the youngest of five children, to Morris and Bessie Hood Webb. He was named after Charles Lindberg, who made the first solo flight across the Atlantic in May of 1927. He graduated from Johnston City High School with the Class of 1945.
He enlisted in the United States Navy and entered active duty on May 24, 1945, missing his High School graduation ceremony. Chuck proudly served his country during WW II and was stationed on Okinawa. He received his Honorable Discharge on August 1, 1946.
After his discharge from the Navy he entered Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, IL as a preaching student. While at LBI, Chuck met his future wife, Elly Quandt. He graduated in May of 1950 with his BA degree. On August 22, 1950, Chuck was united in marriage to Marjorie Eloise (Elly) Quandt at the Copeland Christian Church in rural Mt. Pulaski, IL. They celebrated 66 years of marriage just four days before Chuck's death.
Upon his graduation from LBI, Chuck began a lifelong preaching ministry from which he never retired. He served many churches throughout his lifetime as a minister of the Gospel in Illinois, Nebraska, Indiana, Missouri, Kansas and Wigan, England.
Chuck was very creative and innovative in his ministry and developed two television shows to help spread the gospel of Christ. The first was "By The Way" which aired on WGEM/Quincy for 40 years, from 1957 – 1997. In the 1970's, he created a children's program, "The Chuck and Danny Show", which featured his ventriloquist doll, Danny. This aired on KTVO/Kirksville for six years. He was the recipient of the Lincoln Christian College (LBI) Restoration Award in 1987 for his work in Christian TV Evangelism. Chuck also served as evangelist in many revivals and as faculty in many weeks of church camps.
Chuck loved watching and playing basketball. He played during high school and college and was honored to be inducted into the Lincoln Christian College (LBI) Hall of Fame in 2004.
Chuck was always interested in the adventure of flying a plane, maybe because of being named after Charles Lindberg. In the 1960's he took lessons and received his private pilot license. He enjoyed many hours of flight time before he had to give it up due to health problems.
He was an avid reader and enjoyed Christian literature and also mystery novels. In his later years, Chuck authored several short booklets of Daily Devotions and also booklets on different biblical topics. He then had the booklets printed and distributed to church members, friends and family.
