Obituary

Charles Arthur Petty, 93 of Keokuk died Thursday, October 1, 2015 at Montrose Health Center in Montrose, IA where he was a resident for two days following his family's care at home. He was born February 22, 1922 on the family farm in Sandusky, IA the son of Jesse M. and Grace V. Noonan Petty. On June 30, 1950 Charles was united in marriage to Mary Brisby in Sandusky. She preceded him in death on May 6, 2011. Charles was a lifelong farmer and lived his whole life on the family farm. He was passionate about farming and needed nothing more to make life worthwhile than to farm his fields, raise his dairy cattle and love his family. He also helped his brother with his roofing business and had been employed at Thomas Truck and Freuhauf. He was a member of Royal Aces Motorcycle Cub, member and past president of the Izaak Walton League of America, a member of the Amateur Trapshooting Association, the Tri State Milk Producers Asssociation, Farm Bureau and the Sandusky Cemetery Board. Charles enjoyed many outdoor activities, including trap shooting, fishing, hunting and riding his motorcycle. He loved to travel. A gifted woodworker, Charles enjoyed working in his workshop and making items for his family. He is survived by four daughters, Kathryn Ferguson (Gale) of Alexandria, MO, Shirley Kobel of Dallas City, IL, Patricia Becker (Charlie) of Monticello, IA, and Ruth Dresser (Mike) of Montrose, one son, Charles J. Petty (Lisa) of Keokuk, twelve grandchildren, Lora Eddleman (Robbie), Zeb Ferguson (Tavia), Renea Vanek (Jeff), Sheila Wagner (Mike), Alan Wagner (Heather), Chad Becker (Emily), Nikki Yonkovic (Russ), Brent Dresser (Kristine), Rachel Warosh (Greg), Johnathon Petty, Paige Petty and Tyler Petty, ten great-grandchildren, Ariel LeMatty, Allyson Vanek, Jocelyn Vanek, Melissa Vanek, Lucus Eddleman, Owen Eddleman, Cooper Yonkovic, Claudia Yonkovic, Isabella Becker and Jaiden Warosh. He was also preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, one in infancy, Glen Petty, Harold Petty and Fay Petty, three sisters, Anna "June" Johnson, Erma Harness, Hazel Martin and one son-in-law, Bill Kobel. Funeral services wereheld at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 5, 2015 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Sandusky Cemetery in Sandusky, IA.
