Charles "Chuck" E. Olson, 62, of Keokuk, IA, died Monday, February 27, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA.
He was born on November 27, 1943 in Chicago, IL, the son of Elmer "Al" and Josephine Stahl Olson. On December 23, 1994, Chuck was united in marriage to Christina Rose in Keokuk, IA. She survives.
Other survivors include one daughter, Camille Scalia and her husband Mark of St. Charles, IL, two sons, Jim Olson and his wife Julie of Mesa, AZ, and Nick Olson and his wife Jennie of Albany, NY, one step-daughter, Larissa Price of Worcester, MA, one step-son, Ian Price of Iowa City, IA, four grandchildren, Cammy, Monique and Michaela Neetz, one grandson, Cody Scalia, eight half brothers and sisters, three nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and one son, Charles E. Olson, Jr.
Chuck was born and raised in Chicago and his first job as a teen was ushering at Comisky Park. He graduated from St. Ignatius High School in Chicago and then attended Loyola and De Paul Universities where he studied Accounting. While in Chicago, he was employed as the Chief Financial officer for a movie company. In 1976, he moved to Keokuk where he owned and operated the Keokuk Corrugated Carton Company for several years. He then was employed at City Carton Recycling in Mt. Pleasant, IA as the Facility and Safety Manager until his retirement in 2001. Following his retirement he worked for KOKX AM and FM radio station as a part-time sports announcer. He was a member of the St. John's Episcopal Church in Keokuk, IA. Chuck had a great love for the Arts and had served on the Board of Directors for the Keokuk Art Center, Keokuk Concert Association and the Great River Players. Chuck enjoyed life to its fullest and was very enthusiastic about everything he did. He enjoyed cooking, gardening, crossword puzzles, listening to music and traveling. He was a loyal fan of all the Chicago sports teams. He had been on stage in several GRP productions and always participated in the Keokuk Area Hospital Kardiac Kapers. He had a great love for animals and had rescued many strays over the years and gave them a loving home.
A Celebration of Lifewas held at 5 p.m., Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Tom Palermini officiating.
