Obituary

Catherine "Sis" Breakbill, 89, of Keokuk, passed away Thursday, December 4, 2025, at her granddaughter's home.

She was born June 17, 1936, in Keokuk, the daughter of Ralph A. and Gertrude E. Redmon Cassell. She graduated from St. Peter's High School in Keokuk with the class of 1954.

Sis was employed at McFarland's for over twenty-five years before her retirement. After retiring, she devoted much of her time to caring for family members.

She enjoyed a wide variety of creative hobbies and was happiest when working with her hands. She loved crafting and spent countless hours crocheting blankets to share with others. She also enjoyed painting rocks, taking on small creative projects, and dancing—something that always brought her joy. Sis also loved going for long car rides, especially when they included time with family.

Sis was a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church in Keokuk and was very active in parish life. She was also a proud member of the Ladies of Charity, where she enjoyed serving others and contributing to her community.

She is survived by her children, Cathy McCall (Kirby) and Scott Breakbill both of Keokuk; her grandchildren, Lindsay Riddle (Chad Stark), Chad Riddle, Megan Kinkeade (Brian), Morgan McCall, and Ginnie Eisenbach (Gene); and many great grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Thelma Cochran of Hamilton; her brother, Ralph A. Cassell, Jr. of Tokyo, Japan; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two children, LeeAnn Breakbill and Jan Breakbill.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Father Hai Dinh officiating. Burial followed in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Tuesday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends from 5–7 p.m. A rosary was recited at 4:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the Ladies of Charity.
