Carolyn "Punky" Steele, 73, of Keokuk, IA died Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Keokuk Area Hospital, Keokuk, IA
She was born on March 13, 1942 in Los Angeles, CA the daughter of Basil "Red" and Norma Kinkeade Reed. She graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1960.
On September 4, 1960 Carolyn was united in marriage to Richard Steele in Keokuk at the 2nd Presbyterian Church. He preceded in death on April 20, 1981.
Carolyn was a member of the First Christian Church in Keokuk.
She was employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk and the Montebello Health Center in Hamilton, IL as a nurse's aide.
She enjoyed playing card games, especially Phase 15, with her friends at the Mississippi Terrace every day. She also liked to play Bingo and read mystery novels.
Carolyn was a loving mother and grandmother and cherished the time she spent with them.
She is survived by her father, Basil "Red" Reed of Keokuk, two daughters, Peggy Steele and Kimberly Steele both of Keokuk, four sons, Rodney Steele, Douglas Steele, Eric Steele and Jeffrey Steele all of Keokuk, 32 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, one brother, Joe Reed of Keokuk, two sisters, Terry McMahon and Holly McMahon both of Connecticut and a special friend, Pete Egley of Keokuk.
She was also preceded in death by her mother, two granddaughters, Breanna Wilson and Cheyenne Steele-Hobb, and two great grandsons.
A Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Little Mound Cemetery in rural Keokuk with Pastor John Happs officiating.
Visitation will be held on Saturday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, from 12 noon until 1:45, when the procession will leave for the cemetery.
