Carol "Janie" McCarty, 53 of Keokuk, IA passed away January 27, 2025 at Prestige Care Center of Fairfield in Fairfield, IA.
She was born May 2, 1971 in Mt. Pleasant, IA the daughter of Carroll Duane Calhoun and Mattie Lou Carpenter and raised by Robert Sackman.
Janie attended Keokuk Schools and later completed dental assistant school, where she received a certificate as an assistant.
On June 8, 1990 Janie was united in marriage to Lonnie McCarty in Ft. Madison, IA. They later divorced. He preceded her in death on February 25, 2023.
She had been employed as a CNA at several different nursing homes through the years, including the Keokuk Convalescent Center. Most recently she had been working for Service Master until her health failed.
Janie was very artistic and enjoyed making crafts, cooking meals for her family and shopping. She cherished the time she spent with her family and leaves priceless memories that will live on forever in their hearts.
She is survived by her five children, Danielle Hambleton (Joe) of Keokuk, Samantha McCarty (Drake) of Fairfield, Dillan J. McCarty of Keokuk, Sean McCarty (Jaci) of Keokuk and Chloe McCarty (Dante) of Keokuk and nine grandchildren, Gabby McCarty, Easton Hambleton, Weston Taylor, Wyatt Peacher, Daylon Schofield, Greyson McCarty, Jensyn McCarty, Londyn McCarty, Jayce Elder and Kinsley Martin and three step-children, Timothy Joseph McCarty of Keokuk, Whitney McCarty of Keokuk and Tyler McCarty of Ionia, MI. She is also survived by her step-father, Robert Sackman of Keokuk, one sister, Bobbi Sackman, two brothers, Brandon Calhoun, and Jamie Sackman and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Lonnie McCarty, Jr., step-son, Anthony McCarty and her brother, Robert Sackman, Jr.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Burial will be held in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation was held prior to the service from 1-2 p.m., Friday at the funeral home with family meeting with friends at that time.
