Obituary

Carl A. Dresser, 87, of rural Keokuk, IA died Thursday at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, IA. He was born January 1, 1929 in rural Keokuk, IA the son of Harry Sr. and Mary Ella Wardlow Dresser. On June 18, 1950 he was united in marriage to Margaret A. Peterson in Keokuk. She preceded him in death on June 5, 2012. Carl graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1947. He had been employed by ACS where he maintained several different grain bin sites. He had later been employed by Freuhauf in Ft. Madison, IA until his retirement at the age of sixty-two. He also enjoyed farming. Carl enjoyed woodworking and made cabinets and furniture for his family. He loved spending time outdoors, gardening, mowing, fishing and watching wildlife on the farm. Carl is survived by two sons, Duane Dresser and his wife Pam of Anamosa, IA and James Dresser of Keokuk, one daughter, Barbara Altheide and her husband George "Rick" of Keokuk and one sister-in-law, Elizabeth Dresser of Keokuk, four grandchildren, Craig Dresser and his wife Manu, Todd Dresser and his wife Stacey, Eric Altheide and Beth Altheide (Randy Morgan) and one great granddaughter, Olivia Sue Dresser. He was also preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, Dani Jo Altheide, two brothers, Harry and Howard Dresser and three sisters, Ruth Conlee, Eleanor Swinderman and Lois Cline. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 24, 2016 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Goldie Laymon officiating. Burial was in the Montrose Cemetery in Montrose, IA. Memorials may be made to the Montrose United Methodist Church.
