Obituary

Carl Bunker, 91 of Wayland passed away peacefully Monday, December 23, 2024 at his home with his son David by his side.

He was born December 6, 1933, the son of Isaac "Jake" and Martha Value Bunker in Vincennes, IA. On February 23, 1957, he was united in marriage to Shirley Tucker in Kahoka, MO. She preceded him in death on November 30, 2022.

He is survived by his son, David (Sherry) Bunker of Wayland, MO, two grandsons, Jake (Rachel) Bunker of Kahoka and Josh Bunker (Megan Harvey) of Quincy, IL, one step-granddaughter, Shana (Damon) Bollin of Kahoka, MO. He is also survived by his sister, Deloris "Sis" Kinkeade of Wayland, MO, two sisters-in-law. Karen Tucker of Burlington, IA and Lois White Bunker of Wever, IA, one great-granddaughter, Everly Bunker and one great-grandson, Watson Bunker, three step-great-grandchildren, Dylan McGhghy, Shelby McCall and Drake Bollin, one step-great-great-granddaughter, Elinor Dawson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his wife, Carl was preceded in death by his parents, his in laws, Jacob and Luella Tucker, a son, Dwayne Bunker, infant great-grandson, Baby Bunker, step-grandson, Devin Strickler, brother, Ivan Bunker, brother and sister-in-law, James (Dorthy) Bunker, and sister and brother-in-law, Wanda (Lawrence) Kinkeade, and three brothers-in-law, Larry Kinkeade, Albert Ewart and Jack Tucker and six nephews and three step nephews.

Carl had many short-term jobs. He was a hired hand for a farmer, worked at Sheller Globe, and Steel Castings before going to work at the Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, IA for over 25 years until health problems forced him to retire. Carl was a very hardworking man and taught his boys to work hard for everything they would get out of life and nothing came easy.

He liked gardening, cooking and riding his bike. One year he wore the tires off one of his bikes after riding over 2,000 miles. That was after having a stroke. He also enjoyed riding around town with Shirley and setting outside and he never missed his favorite game show Family Feud.

A funeral service was held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 27, 2024, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial will be in the Frazee Cemetery.

Visitation was held one hour prior to the funeral with the family meeting with friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.
