Candace Sue Root, 61 of Keokuk, died Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL.
She was born April 12, 1955 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Rudy and Barbara Janish. On March 21, 1998, Candace was united in marriage to Breece Root in Bakersfield, CA. He survives.
Other survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Root and Neysa Root, both of Keokuk, one son, Gregory Elliott of Albuquerque, NM, four step-daughters, Wanda Goldsmith and Debbie Root, both of Hamilton, Shawn Root of Keokuk, Helen Fontenot of Welsh, LA, two step-sons, Robert Root of Keokuk and Bergis Root of Hamilton, six grandchildren, Odessy, Tyson and Destiny Lamma, Dilon, Waylan, and Rhys Plant, numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren, one brother, David Janish of Florida, two sisters, Vicki and Jess both of Florida and her mother, Barbara Janish of Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Candace had been employed in home services and had also worked at K-Mart.
She was an active member of the new Bethel Church in Keokuk and was a volunteer at the Hope House.
Candace enjoyed making craft projects, including Christmas wreaths and bead jewelry. She loved caring for her houseplants and grew beautiful yellow roses outdoors. Candace loved spending time in the kitchen with her grandchildren cooking meals and baking pies. She liked to get together with her friends at the hotel and drink morning coffee every day. She was a people person and could strike up a conversation with anyone, even a stranger.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2016 at the New Bethel Church, 1217 Morgan Street with Pastor Debra Letcher officiating.
