Obituary

Brian Richardson, 47, of Keokuk died Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born March 31, 1965 in Burlington, Iowa to Marvin Dale and Sally Stark Mason Richardson. Survivors include his parents, Marvin and Sally Richardson of Hamilton, IL, a brother, Brad Richardson and his wife Jennifer of Carthage, IL, maternal grandparent, Marjorie Mason of Burlington, IA, a sister in law, Jenny Richardson of Keokuk, three nieces, Mya, Macy and Wren Richardson and a nephew, Harper and several other friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Marvin and Bea Richardson and maternal grandfather, Jack Mason and his great grandparents. Mr. Richardson was a 1983 graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, IL, a 1985 graduate of Southeastern Community College in Keokuk and 1987 graduate of Northeast Missouri State University in Kirksville, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication. He was a member of the alumni associations at both SCC and NMSU. He was the lifestyle editor and former staff writer and business editor at the Daily Gate City newspaper in Keokuk, beginning his employment with Gate City Publishing in July 1989. He was a member of the Keokuk Lions Club, serving as Lion tamer responsible for the club's monthly newsletter. He also was on the board of directors of Keokuk Convention and Tourism Bureau, Keokuk School Board and Big River United Way. He was involved in Great River Players productions, Kardiac Kapers and was a participant in the Main Street Keokuk Inc. "Adopt-a-Block" program. He also was an ambassador with Keokuk Area Chamber of Commerce. He served on a committee in conjunction with Keokuk's Civil War Re-enactment. Mr. Richardson was raised in Bethel Presbyterian Church in Hamilton. He later became a member of Stover United Methodist Church. Since August 1989 he became a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk, IA. He was a member of the Church and Society Committee and past member of the Worship committee. Celebration of life services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, January 24, 2013 at the Hamilton United Methodist Church in Hamilton with Rev. Dave Barrett and Rev. Julie Azbell officiating. Memorials may be made to the Trinity United Methodist Church or Big River United Way.
