Brian Lee Holmes, 38, of Keokuk died Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA. He was born on February 15, 1976 in Iowa City, IA the son of Ronald and Donna Pennington Holmes. Brian graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1994. He attended Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant. He attended the First Christian Church in Hamilton, IL. He had been employed as a chef at Ainsworth Junction and Riverside Casino. Brian enjoyed hanging out with his friends and family, fishing, rock hunting and attending music concerts. He is survived by two daughters, Kendal Manning of Liberty, IA and Amber Holmes of Washington, IA, his girlfriend, Darcie Etter of Nauvoo, his mother and step-father, Donna and Dale Wixom of Keokuk, his father, Ronald Holmes of Burlington, IA, one brother, Brandon Holmes of Ft. Madison, IA, one sister, Nichole Wixom Shonka and her husband Adam of Forestdale, MO, one half brother, Dustin Holmes and his wife Jessica of Burlington, IA, two half sisters, Laura Holmes of Burlington, IA and Terra Septer and her husband Brandon of Davenport, IA, his paternal grandmother, Blanche Holmes of Keokuk, and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Leroy Holmes, his maternal grandparents, Frank and Gertrude Pennington and one aunt, Sharon Brooks. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m.Friday, June 20, 2014 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Brother Bill Hauser officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk. A memorial has been established for his family.
