Bonny Sammons, 82, of Keokuk, IA passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024 at her home.

She was born October 22, 1941 in LaHarpe, IL the daughter of Leonard David and Mary Ruth "Betty" Duncan Harrison.

Bonny graduated from Culver Stockton College with two Bachelor's Degrees, one in Law Enforcement Administration and the second in Psychology.  She was very proud to have been the first female to do an internship at the Lee County Sheriff's department.  She furthered her education at Western Illinois University and received her Master's degree in Gerontology.

She was first married to Paul McCullough and to this union two children were born, Sheryll and Tracey. They later divorced. She was then united in marriage to John David Sammons on August 27, 1977 in Kahoka, MO. He survives.

She is also survived by three children, Sheryll McCullough of Keokuk, Tracey McCullough (Glen Dye) of Bonaparte and John Sammons of Keokuk, six grandchildren Samantha Moore (Lance), Peter Sammons (Gabrielle), Kylee Bowers, Jacob Dawkins (Merrissa), Tyler Sammons (Tia) and Austin Lowry, eleven great-grandchildren, Dominic Moore (Jadyan), Olivia Moore (Lane), Cameron Moore (Rylan), Kayla Moore (Conrad), Daniel and Addlynn Dawkins, Owen, Geneva, Milley Sammons and Atley and Judah Sammons and one great-great-grandchild, Ridge Moore. She is also survived by a daughter- in- law, Beverly Barlow Lowry, her sister, Debby Wear (Charlie Dumond) of Hamilton,  two nephews, David Wear (Erin) and Dustin Wear (Makayla) and great nieces and nephews, Campbell, Emory, Alex and Abby.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her mother and father-in-law, John and Jeanette Sammons, a son, Robert Lowry and a brother, Lenny Harrison.

During high school, Bonny was a majorette and passed on her baton twirling skills to her daughters. She worked at H&L Green Store in Keokuk after high school and later worked in several nursing homes, starting as a CNA and progressing to roles as activities director and social worker. She eventually became a social worker for the State of Iowa and worked there until her retirement.

Bonny and John enjoyed collecting antiques and became antique dealers to support their habit. Bonny's main collection was dolls.  She loved to decorate and celebrate for the Christmas Holiday.

She was a devoted member of Anchor of Hope Church and was baptized again as an adult in October 2010. She also actively participated in the Lee County Historical Society, contributing to the preservation of local history.

A memorial service was held at 12  noon on  Friday May 31 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Marilyn Curtis officiating. Burial will be in the Montrose Cemetery.

Visitation was held two hours prior to the service on Friday  with the family meeting with friends from 10 a.m. until service time at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Lee County Hospice, Anchor of Hope Church or to the donor's choice.
