Bonnie Jean Horner, 85, of Keokuk, Iowa, passed away Friday, October 9, 2026, at River Hills Village in Keokuk.
She was born March 22, 1941, in Keokuk, Iowa, the daughter of W.R. and Stella Miller Krome.
On September 17, 1958, Bonnie was united in marriage to Larry Horner in Quincy, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 16, 2013.
Bonnie had been employed at Sheller Globe in Keokuk and later worked at Casey’s General Store in Montrose, Iowa.
Her faith was an important part of Bonnie’s life. She attended Anchor of Hope and Calvary Four Square before she and Larry helped establish Freedom in Christ Christian Center in Keokuk. Her faith remained a guiding part of her life.
Bonnie enjoyed crafting and took pleasure in creating things with her hands. She was an avid reader who especially enjoyed spending time in the Bible, along with westerns and mystery novels. She loved being outdoors and making memories while fishing and camping. She especially looked forward to the Friday fish fries, which were something she truly enjoyed. Bonnie also had a special place in her heart for animals, particularly her beloved dogs, who were a cherished part of her life. Above all, Bonnie cherished her family and took great pride in being a mother and grandmother. Some of her happiest moments were spent surrounded by family and friends on her farm, making memories and enjoying the time they shared together. These moments were especially meaningful to her and held a special place in her heart.
Bonnie is survived by her children, Corky Horner of Keokuk, Doug Horner (Dinette) of Keokuk, Cynthia Smith (Gene) of DeWitt, Iowa, James Horner (Beth) of Montrose, Iowa, and Joe Horner (Tracy) of Fort Madison, Iowa; one bonus son, Scott Mead of Asheville, North Carolina; nineteen grandchildren; forty-one great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, Larry, she was also preceded in death by her son, John Horner; one grandson, Briar Horner; one great-grandson, Gunther Ames; and one brother, Rodney Krome and her twin sister, Betty Hagemean.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff at River Hills, Memory Lane, for the kindness, compassion, and wonderful care they provided to Bonnie.
A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday at Oakland Sand Cemetery in Vincennes, Iowa, with Pastor Dan Davis officiating.
