Billy Roy Whalen, 88, of Keokuk, IA, died Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, MO. He was born on January 3, 1924 in Keokuk, IA, the son of Vincent and Ruth Summers Whalen. On December 12, 1943, Billy was united in marriage to Wanna Spurgeon. She preceded him in death on March 29, 2005. Billy graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1942. He had been employed at Hubingers/Heinze in Keokuk, IA from 1944 – 1976 and retired after 32 years of service. He was a member of the Grain Millers Union. Billy enjoyed cars and model airplanes. He is survived by one son, Billy "Rene" Whalen and his wife Carole of Keokuk and one daughter Arlene Cannon and her husband Rod of Revere, MO. He was also preceded in death by one infant son, Robert Harold Whalen. Graveside services were held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk with Dr. David Castrodale officiating.
