Mrs. Beulah M. (Phillips) Roberts was called home to be with Our Lord on Tuesday, July 19th, 2005 at 7:00 P.M. She had been residing at Elmwood Nursing Home in Green Springs, Ohio since April of 2001. Mrs. Roberts was born on June 30, 1909 in Tioga, Illinois to John H. Phillips and mother Pearl L. (Patterson) Phillips. Both precede her in death. She was the eldest of several children all of whom were her half-sister and one half-brother. All but one, Mrs. Veneta (Bob) Justice precedes her in death. Beulah married Drew Roberts on February 9th, 1946 in Kansas City, MO. Mr. Roberts passed away on May 6th, 1985. She was the mother of two daughters, Mrs. Darlene (Herman) Riter and Deloris (Fox,) Benjiman, who also precede her in death. Mrs. Roberts made Keokuk her home from 1932 until she moved to Green Springs, Ohio to be near her granddaughter. She was employed for a time at Keokuk Electric Metals in the lunch room and was a Clerk at the Golden Rule Women's and Children's clothing Store for a time and during the Korean conflict was employed at (Drydens) better know as Sheller Globe, as an inspector for the gas mask renovation department. Later she would become a homemaker and surrogate mother to four of her 11 grandchildren, Mrs. Brenda (Paul) Pennock of Fremont, Ohio, Ms. Sharon (Richard) Campbell of Moline, Illinois, Janet Marie Fox of Fowler, Illinois and Mr. Dale Allen Fox of Keokuk. The other grandchildren are Mrs. Nancy (Mike) Miller of Dallas, Texas, Steve (Jane) Riter of Keokuk, Iowa, Mrs. Judy (Jerry) Lovell of Washington, Iowa, Susan (James) Grover of Souix City, Iowa, Karla Riter of Washington, Iowa, Dallas (Vickie) Benjiman of Lincoln, Nebraska and Vicki Benjiman address unknown. She was also instrumental in the rearing of two of her 14 great grandchildren, Mrs. Hope (Derrick) Bryan of Fremont, Ohio and Mr. Troy (Faye) Campbell of Waverly, Iowa and twenty three great great grandchildren and one great great great granddaughter. Funeral services were held 2 P.M. Monday, July 25, at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, Iowa with interment at the National Cemetery, where she will rest with her late husband.
