Beulah "Bea" Rankin McGinnis, 90, died Monday, December 20, 2010 at the Marquardt Memorial Manor in Watertown, WI.
She was born on January 20, 1920 in Red Oak, IA the daughter of Ed and Nell McIntosh Wolfe.She lost her mother at an early age due to disease, and was raised with the help of several McIntosh aunts in LeMars, IA. She first married Jack Kemp and he preceded her in death. She then married Dr. John Rankin, M.D. and he preceded her in death. She later married Col. William T. McGinnis and he preceded her in death.
She had been employed as a secretary with the FBI in Des Moines, IA. She had also been a Home-Making teacher at Keokuk High School in Keokuk IA. Bea was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Keokuk. She was also a member of the Keokuk Country Club, PEO Chapter LZ and Mother's Study Club.
Bea had been a dedicated volunteer at the Keokuk Area Hospital in Keokuk, IA for many years. She served on the the Keokuk Area Hospital Board of Directors from 1989 – 1995, was Chairman of the Patient Care Hospital Quality Committee from 1993 – 1995, served on the Home Health Advisory Committee from 1993 – 2004 and was a board member of the Keokuk Area Hospital Foundation Board in 2001. She was a longtime member and supporter of the Keokuk Area Hospital Auxiliary and was the recipient of the Auxiliary Volunteer of the Year award. Bea was instrumental in starting the Red Cross Bloodmobile in Keokuk. She was an active volunteer with the American Cancer Society and the Road to Recovery. Bea also was active with the American Field Service student exchange program, Easter Seals and Lee County Hospice.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, crafts and cooking. She was also an avid swim team supporter. Bea loved to help people and always put others needs ahead of her own. She had a never-ending, contagious, positive attitude on life, believed in Guardian Angels, and looked forward to life in the ever after with all her loved ones – past and present.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Frazier of Keokuk, IA and Kay Gerstner and her husband Jan of Delafield, WI, three sons, John W. Rankin of Gold Hill, CO, William E. Rankin of Davenport, IA and James C. Rankin of Austin, TX, eight grandchildren, Jonah Rankin, Zane Rankin, Michael Gerstner, Ethan Gerstner, Tanner Gerstner, Daniel Frazier, Jasmine Rankin and Joshua Rankin and two sisters, Eunice Nemeth and Elizabeth Montgomery.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Trinity United Methodist Church with Pastor John Raab officiating. Burial was in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
