Betty J. Hecox, 79, of Keokuk, IA formerly of St. Francisville, MO died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the Blessing Hospital in Quincy, IL. She was born on May 17, 1934 in Wayland, MO, the daughter of Lloyd and Lena Boise Walker. On February 14, 1950, Betty was united in marriage to James Thomas Hecox in Kahoka, MO. He preceded her in death on July 13, 1998. She attended St. Paul United Church of Christ in Keokuk, IA. Betty was a member of the Women of the Moose, the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW and the American Legion Auxiliary all in Keokuk. She was also a member of the Southside Boat Club in Keokuk. Betty favorite place to go was the Riverboat where she enjoyed playing the slot machines hoping to hit the jackpot. She loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She is survived by one daughter, Vicki Wilson and her husband Terry of Hickory, NC, one son, James Hecox and his wife Cheryl of Keokuk, seven grandchildren, Tim Scovern and his wife Shannon, Heath Scovern and Todd Scovern and his wife Misty, Tonya Boltz, April Daniels and her husband Troy, Krystal and Jaimie Hecox, thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, a special brother-in-law, Gary Whitaker of Wayland, MO, brother-in-law, Carl Hecox of Arkansas, two sisters-in-law, Mary Walker and Nancy Walker both of Wayland, MO and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, Wayne, Bernard, Winston and Marvin Walker and five sisters, Janice Walker in infancy, Doris Walker, Bernadine Wilson, Shirley Whitaker, Zola Byrn. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 13th, 2013 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Reverend Matt Hunt officiating. Burial was in the Keokuk National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
