Betty Jean Hagmeier, 82, of Montrose, IA passed away Saturday, July 29, 2017 at the Fort Madison Community Hospital in Fort Madison, IA surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 18, 1935 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of Raymond and Remona Bickel Soule. Betty graduated from Keokuk High School with the Class of 1953. She had been married to Wayne Hagmeier of Montrose, IA.
Early in her life, Betty ran a family grocery store. She later worked at Fruehauf in Ft. Madison and retired from there. She also worked many years at the annual Mexican Fiesta in Ft. Madison.
She was a faithful and active member of the Montrose United Methodist Church
Betty loved going to auctions and working in her flower gardens. Family was the most important thing to Betty. She had coached her children's softball teams when they were young and always enjoyed going to family gatherings.
Betty is survived by one son, Donnie Hagmeier of Montrose, IA, five daughters, Debbie (Rick) Scott of Rudy, AR, Carol Stice of Keokuk, Cheryl (Kim) Irvin of Montrose, Linda (John) Sauer of NC, Denise (James) Kelly of Montrose, a son-in-law, Randy Rea, thirteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and a longtime friend, Angelo Lozano of Fort Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, James Hagmeier, a daughter, Nancy Rea and a brother, David Soule.
Funeral services will be held at 10 am Wednesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with Pastor Dave Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Keokuk.
Visitation will be held after 1 pm Tuesday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk with the family meeting with friends from 6 – 8 p.m.
