Obituary

Betty Louise Meeker Byrn, 83, of rural Wayland, MO, died Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at her home. She was born on November 22, 1926 at home in rural Brasher, MO, the fifth daughter and ninth child of John Everett and Katharine Mariah Betts Meeker. On January 31, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Olan Byrn in Edina, MO. To this union five children were born. During the last eight months of WW II, Betty had worked at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, Ca and later at W.T. Grant in Santa Monica. In later years she worked for a time at Sheller Globe in Keokuk, IA. Betty was an avid reader and an accomplished seamstress. She made many quilts and faux fur coats of many colors. She had several hobbies including collecting stuffed animals, costume jewelry, dolls, shoes, purses and dresses. In some circles she was famous for her gooseberry pies and her chocolate chip cookies. She is survived by three sons, Eddie Byrn and his wife Sharon of Moorpark, CA, Robert Byrn of Canton, MO and Cory Byrn of Kahoka, MO and one daughter, Loretta Byrn of Revere, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter Judy in 1973, her husband Olan in 1995, four sisters, three brothers, one infant grandson and several nieces, nephews and other relatives. Funeral services were held Friday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka, MO with Pastor Dan Deatrick officiating. Burial was in the Kahoka Cemetery in Kahoka, MO. Visitation was held Thursday at the Vigen Memorial Home in Kahoka Memorials may be made to the Clark County Cancer Fund.
