Betty Jane Brown

View Video Tribute Betty Jane Brown, 71, of Keokuk, IA, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, IA. She was born on March 9, 1940 in Eldora, IA, the daughter of Robert and Ruth Norman Meader. On June 10, 1960, Betty was united in marriage to Jim M. Brown in Eldora, IA. He survives. Other survivors include two sons, Tim Brown of Keokuk, IA and Matthew Brown and his wife Alisha of Canton, MO, one daughter, Jennifer Thompson and her husband Jim of Page, ND, four grandchildren, Morgan Brown, Ashton Brown, Jacob Thompson and Izzy Thompson, one sister, Sally Roberts and her husband Doss of Midland, TX, and one brother, Norman "Mick" Meader of Tucson, AZ. She was preceded in death by one sister Roberta "Bobbi" Gutzke. Betty graduated from Eldora High School in Eldora, IA with the Class of 1958 and then attended Simpson College in Indianola, IA. She had first been employed at the Daily Gate City in Keokuk and then later worked for John Moander at Associated Tools in Keokuk. Betty was a member of P.E.O. She enjoyed raising her cats, knitting and reading romance novels. She also enjoyed attending Antique Shows and Flea Markets. She was an avid fan of NCAA Basketball. Visitation was held Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA. Memorials may be made to Juvenile Diabetes Association.
