Betty Lou Bell, 87, of Keokuk, IA died Thursday, July 30, 2015 at River Hills Village in Keokuk, IA. She was born December 7, 1927 in Keokuk, IA the daughter of George and Edith Parker Schlatter. On November 10, 1946, Betty was united in marriage to Robert Morris Bell, Jr. in Keokuk. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1982. Betty's life was devoted to her family, a caretaker through and through. A devoted wife and mother she loved her family deeply and greatly enjoyed her grandchildren. She spent her free time reading, working in the yard, and doing latch hook needle work. She was a devoted and active member of the First Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Wade and her husband, Sonny, of Hamilton, IL, a son-in-law, Jeff Johnston of Des Moines, IA, a sister, Mary McLaughlin and her husband, Gary, of Keokuk, as well as six grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, four sisters-in-law, Janet Clingingsmith, Joyce Townsend, Louise Hickey and Dorothy Morse and many nieces and nephews She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Sue Johnston, her brother, Robert Schlatter, her grandson, Jess Johnston, her half-sister, Virginia Brooks, and her half-brother, Marty Morse. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, IA with Pastor Dale Thomas officiating. Burial will be at the Keokuk National Cemetery at a later date. Visitation was held on Saturday from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home with the family meeting with friends at that time.
